HIGH winds caused chaos at Bowes Show when one of the show tents was blown away.

Despite the setback, organisers said they were delighted at the large turnout.

There were record entries for the 117th show, which took place at Gilmonby, County Durham, on Saturday.

There were almost 500 entries in the horse and ponies section, the best ever, and more than 100 took part in the dog show.

The sheep section was well supported and the industrial section had 200 more entries than last year. The 10km fell race attracted about 50 people and there was a strong entry for the fun run.

Robina Tranter, the horse and ponies secretary, said the weather caused problems, but said the show was a success. She said: "Our tent blew away and we ended up having to run the pony section from our not very big horse box.

But there seemed to be quite a lot of people around, in spite of the weather, and although it was a foul day, all of the trade stands said they would come back next year."
