A LAW firm celebrated its centenary year with a reunion of staff from yesteryear.

Staff at Wear Valley solicitors Marquis Hewitts traced former employees to join present day staff and clients for a gathering of 120 people at the office in Elliott Street, Crook.

It will also mark its centenary by offering 50 people the chance to make a will for £1.

The firm, originally called R Marquis & Co Solicitors, amalgamated with Hewitts Solicitors in 1987 and became known as Marquis Hewitts.

Managing partner Andrew Tweddle, based at the Crook office, joined Marquis Penna Solicitors as a trainee in 1979.

He said: "A hundred years of successful business is something to celebrate, and we wanted to mark the occasion by offering people in the area something useful from our service for a price they probably would have paid all those years ago.

"Staff have been key to the success of the Crook office so we wanted to track down previous staff who used to work here years ago to help us celebrate the occasion.

"It was difficult to find some people but once we traced a couple it led to finding many more."
