A TEENAGER'S arm was cut to the bone in a glassing in a pizza shop, a court was told yeterday.

Robert Rogan,17, was repeatedly stabbed with a broken pint glass as he tried to escape Stephen Chipchase, 20.

Tim Bubb, prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court, said the terrified teenager even climbed on the counter in a bid to escape, but was pushed back by the staff who misinterpreted the situation.

Chipchase followed Mr Rogan and a friend into the shop in Norton Road, Stockton, after an argument in the street. He grabbed the glass and broke it on the back of Mr Rogan's head.

He repeatedly thrust the glass at him, and one blow on his wrist went through to the bone, said Mr Bubb.

Chipchase was arrested five days later and claimed he had been defending himself against a knife.

Chipchase, of Cromwell Green, Stockton, was sent to a young offenders' institution for two-and-a-half years after he pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on March 19.

Sam Faulks, mitigating, said the offence was out of character for Chipchase, who was later attacked by someone he believed was a friend of the victim.
