A RECORD 119 people aged six months to 70 years raised about £2,500 after taking part in sponsored walks.

Three walks, organised by Redcar Rotary Club, were held in Farndale.

Six month old Archie Wyatt, grandson of the late Rotary member Charles Wyatt, of Saltburn, after whom the memorial walk was named, was one of the participants.

His father Andrew, from Edinburgh, carried him on his back for the 13-mile walk over Rudland Ridge, the longest of the choice of three treks over 7.5 miles, ten miles or 13 miles.

The youngest participant to complete the course under his own steam was nine-year-old Thomas Clark, grandson of Rotary president Mike Clark, of Redcar, who both walked 7.5 miles.

Organiser Peter Gleghorn, of Marske, expects a record £2,500 to be raised through sponsorship when all the money is received.

Sponsor money will be shared between Rotary club charities and the walkers' own favourite charities.

A percentage of the Rotary club's half will go to Teesside Hospice, where former walk organiser Mr Wyatt died in May.

Mr Gleghorn said: "We have now received over £1,200 sponsorship money from walkers and hope that we would double that when all the contributions have come in.

"We hope that walkers will collect their sponsorship money and send it in as soon as possible."
