A warning has been issued for people to be on the alert for bogus callers.

Powergen Warm Front is warning people in North Yorkshire to be on the look- out after two incidents when bogus workers pretended to represent it.

Spokesman Terry Booth said: "Warm Front staff always carry proper identification and householders should always ask to see this identification before letting anyone into their home.

"We don't arrive unannounced at customer's homes and all visits are made by appointment over the phone and by letter."

He added: "We also offer a password service for added security. Customers can set up a password that only they and Warm Front have access to.

"I would urge anyone who is in any doubt about someone calling at their home to call us free on 0800 183 1051."

Powergen Warm Front is a Government-funded scheme which provides heating and insulation measures for people on income and disability benefits or credits, up to the value of £2,500, at no cost to the householder.
