ALMOST £300 was handed over to 50plus Age Concern in Darlington as part of the Hearts in Action Campaign by AXA Insurance.

Half of the money was collected at fundraising events organised by AXA staff and then matched by AXA direct. Dr Glen Reynolds, of 50plus Age Concern, said the £267.50 raised represented the beginning of what the charity hoped would be a long-term relationship with AXA.

"It represents local businesses working in and with the community, with a real sense and acknowledgement of community spirit," he said.

Yesterday, 50plus Age Concern held its first market stall outside Bennet House, Darlington, selling Christmas puddings, calendars and craft work.
