REPRESENTATIVES of Dutch striker Clyde Wijnhard are expected to open talks with Darlington manager David Hodgson in the next 48 hours to discuss their client's future at the Williamson Motors Stadium.

Wijnhard's one-month deal expires next week and Hodgson has already signalled his intentions to award the player a contract until the end of the season. The 30-year-old has scored three goals in four appearances since joining Quakers.

Hodgson has been impressed with the impact Wijnhard and strike partner Alun Armstrong have made in League Two.

And while Armstrong is under contract until December, Hodgson said: "Clyde has done more than enough to suggest he's worth a longer deal.

"Clyde's agent is due back from business this week and hopefully we can start talking."

And while Wijnhard is keen to keep his options open, the former Leeds United forward has hinted that a long-term deal with Quakers would appeal.

Meanwhile, York City are planning to make a renewed bid to take Quakers defender David McGurk back to Bootham Crescent on loan. McGurk was recalled by Hodgson on Monday and was on the bench for Tuesday night's 1-1 draw at Notts County.

However, City boss Chris Brass is keen to re-sign the Teessider in time for Saturday's game against Barnet.

Brass said: "We were hoping to extend David's stay and David Hodgson was considering whether to give him clearance to play in the FA Cup before we reached an agreement. There is still a chance he might come back here for Saturday's game."

McGurk made a favourable impression during a one-month loan with the Minstermen. But with skipper Craig Liddle ruled out for a month and Joey Hutchinson and Curtis Fleming sidelined with knee injuries, Hodgson may be reluctant to allow the 22-year-old to leave for a second stint with the Conference side.

* Notts County manager Gary Mills transfer-listed David Pipe, Mike Whitlow and Matthew Gill prior to Tuesday's 1-1 with Darlington.

Mills said the shock tactic had come as the response to a dire weekend performance in which they were beaten 3-1 by neighbours Mansfield. Neither Gill nor Pipe featured against the Quakers while Whitlow started but was substituted in the 65th minute after falling victim to a rib injury.

''It's a sad thing when you have to kick people up the backside and put players on the transfer list to get them to play like they should,'' said Mills.
