MOST people have probably heard of house, garage and even elevator music - but what about skip music?

Now there is a chance to hear it as saxophonist Lol Coxhill will be playing a series of live concerts inside an empty skip next month.

Promoter Simon Thackray promises the performances will not be rubbish.

"I got the idea when I was skipping down a hill with a friend one day," he said.

"It was so much fun I decided to hold a concert where people could skip down a hill and Lol could play at the bottom.

"In the end, I decided to get rid of the skipping and just put Lol in a skip."

Surprisingly, this is not the most unusual idea Mr Thackray, who runs The Shed arts venue in Brawby, near Malton, North Yorkshire, has come up with.

In 1999 he ran the first ever Yorkshire Pudding Boat Race.

The annual sight of children paddling craft made of flour and egg continues to attract big crowds.

Another creation was the fish and chip van tour, which saw musicians perform to audiences as they queued for their fried supper

Mrs Boyes' Bingo, a gig which mixes prize bingo with drumming and percussion, has also attracted rave reviews.

The saxophonist's music will be recorded in the skip. It will then be "recycled" in London on the art radio station Resonance 104.4FM and on resonancefm.com, said Mr Thackray.

"The idea is to generate interest in the free improvisation music that Lol plays," the promoter said.

"I asked him how he described the music and he said 'I make it up as I go along, but I try to make it up good'.

"He is a legend and to hear him perform in Ryedale will be astounding."

The saxophonist in a skip one-day tour, sponsored by Pi Internet, will start in Brawby on Tuesday, November 2, at 10.30am. The skip will then be transported by wagon and arrive in Malton at 10.30am, Pickering at 2pm, Kirbymoorside at 3.30pm and Helmsley at 4.30pm.
