YOUNGSTERS in County Durham have been given the chance to show their creative side as part of a graffiti workshop day.

Groups of young people from Evenwood, Rookhope and Leeholme worked with artist Paul Richards in the workshop at the Groundwork West Durham offices in Bishop Auckland.

The young people, aged between 14 and 18, chose issues and subjects that were important in their lives and portrayed them in graffiti-style artwork by Mr Richards.

The subjects included sex and drugs, isolation and sports education.

The day gave the young people a chance to mix with youngsters from other communities, develop new skills and think about the things that affect them.

Leanne Holbrough, an environmental youth worker from Groundwork West Durham, said: "They all really enjoyed it and it really got them talking. They were well impressed with the artwork.

"We've been improving our youth room at the Groundwork office and the artwork is going to be hanging in there."
