A TEENAGE girl has taken the autograss racing world by storm after being crowned club champion.

Rachael Davis, 15, from Bishop Middleham, County Durham, became attracted to the sport after watching her father compete at the Yorkshire Dales Autograss Club, near Catterick, last year. She remained unbeaten in all her junior races and has been crowned club champion.

Proud father John, from College House farm, said: "Her first meeting showed fantastic results with wins every race. The officials could not believe that this young girl could race that well in her very first race against 16-year-old boys."

The Sedgefield Community College student has won more than 50 races, competing all over the country. She is now waiting to hear if she has won the North-East League.

She finished fastest girl and 11th overall at the Junior Nationals in Stroud, Gloucestershire, where 137 juniors took part.

She is hoping that her success will lead to a career in the sport. She said: "I love it. I have always liked cars and I get to go fast and race against all my friends. It is such an adrenaline rush."

Mr Davis said: "Rachael is an incredible girl who will not stop for second best.

"I really believe, with the support of her family and sponsors and, of course, her own drive and determination, she will achieve her goal."
