THE re-opening of a North-East university art gallery has been marked with the arrival of a large bronze sculpture.
The People Show, a 6.5metre bronze sculpture by Norwegian artist Nicolaus Widerberg, was yesterday standing outside the new wing to the University of Northumbria's gallery, in Newcastle's Sandyford Road.
The sculpture, which is a permanent installation near the entrance of the gallery extension, arrived at North Shields at the weekend by special cargo from Oslo. It took 18 months to make.
From there, it was transported to Newcastle's city centre, and installed in the gallery's forecourt by a team of engineers.
The People Show, the gallery's first programmed display, will run from January 21 to February 18.
