Spennymoor coach Graham Clark defended his use of substitutes after his side beat Lincoln United 1-0 at the Brewery Field on Saturday.

After just half an hour's play, Clark took off John Toft and sent on Steve Hutt for tactical reasons.

"The formation we started with just wasn't working, and I felt that I had to change it.

"That's what I'm here to do, to make tough decisions like that.

"And I believe that the change worked, because we won the game."

Moors failed to make much of an impression on the Lincoln defence early on, and Lincoln missed a good chance to take the lead through Gary Bull.

But Moors improved in the second half, and took the points after 78 minutes with a blistering shot by Andrew Brown from 25 yards.

Moors are now unbeaten in their last six matches.

Bishop Auckland are back in the bottom two after they lost 4-1 at Marine.

Manager Brian Honour said; "I think the scoreline doesn't reflect how we played. We were the better side in the second half, and they scored twice late on when we were pushing forward."

Marine took the lead through Dean Thurston after 14 minutes, and Paul McNally added a second from the edge of the area after 27 minutes.

Bishops pulled a goal back when Stuart Irvine scored from a Chris Moore cross, but in the dying minutes Tommy Taylor and Neil Black added further goals.

Bishops' next game is their fundraising friendly against Sunderland on Tuesday night at the Brewery Field, kick off 7pm.

Whitby are now second in the table after they beat Bamber Bridge 3-0, with goals from Steve Johnson (two) and Nick Scaife.

Blyth drew 1-1 at Bridlington after Steve Preen put them into the lead.

Gateshead lost 4-1 at Witton Albion, Mark Atkinson equalising for them at one stage.
