DOUBTS have been raised over the future of a town manager amid uncertainty about future funding.

Colin Grant was appointed as Richmond's town manager in April 2002 to help regenerate the town's economy by attracting retailers and other businesses. The post was funded by the regional development agency Yorkshire Forward and his contract is up at the end of March.

However, no decision has been made as to whether the agency will continue funding after March and it could be into the New Year before a decision is made.

Mr Grant said: "I feel I have managed to do half a job and the town is better than it was but it is not mended yet.

"We have made progress but there is still a lot to do and I would like to be able to finish the job."

A spokesman for Yorkshire Forward said discussions were still continuing.
