FOUR young martial arts students came a step closer to visiting the Far East thanks to their families and friends.
Christopher Clinton, 15, Faye Broadbent, 12, and Tom Short and Adam Hindle, both ten, from Darlington, are hoping to practice their taekwondo skills on a trip to South Korea.
But each must raise £1,000 in order to take part in the visit, organised by Cockerton Taekwondo Club.
On Saturday, their parents organised a 15-hour sponsored exercise bike marathon in the Dolphin Centre to raise funds.
Faye's father, Roy, said: "They are really dedicated martial artists and deserve the chance to go. We got together and decided to do this to help them. We started at about 7.30pm, took turns to cycle and finished at 9pm. I'd guess we've raised about £300 for each child."
Club instructor Denise Hughes said: "They are going to be training most of the time when they are there. It would be a great experience for them."
