Komatsu UK has appointed a manufacturing director at its North-East base.

GRAHAM HENDERSON, 42, has joined the company, in Birtley, near Gateshead, to lead the manufacturing process, associated engineering functions and maintenance, and will manage the workforce of 400.

He has previously been operations director for construction specialist Terex in Scotland and Manchester.

Peter Howe, managing director of Komatsu UK, said: "Graham has extensive experience in the manufacturing industry and has built up a very impressive track record.

"We are delighted to welcome him to the team and hope he finds his new position challenging and very rewarding."

Mr Henderson, who lives in Washington Village, commutes to Brentwood, near London, every other weekend to spend time with his wife and two children until they join him in the North-East.

Komatsu employs about 670 staff at Birtley.
