UNION members from a North-East shipyard will today travel to Parliament to lobby their MPs about the lack of orders.

The workers from Swan Hunter on Tyneside are calling on their MPs to ensure that they secure a fair share of the orders from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

They are seeking to secure orders to fill the gap in the order book at Swans between 2006 and 2008.

They say this could be achieved by the MoD bringing forward some of the work they have available over the next few years.

GMB union northern region secretary Tom Brennan said: "It is imperative that the northern MPs do everything within their power to ensure work is forthcoming from the Ministry of Defence in order to stave off the redundancies that otherwise would come to Swan Hunter."
