SWINGS and slides may finally return to a sprawling housing estate after a campaign to buy play equipment was launched.
The fundraising campaign to buy play equipment for the Newton Hall estate in Durham City gets under way with a coffee morning next week.
When it was built in the early seventies, Newton Hall was Europe's largest private sector housing development and in the early days there was some play equipment.
However, over time it was removed due to vandalism and modern safety requirements. Now the Newton Hall Play Parks Fund has been set up to campaign for the return of local play equipment.
The group will start fund raising next Saturday, with a coffee morning in All Saints' Church Hall from 10.30am until noon.
