DURHAM peace campaigners will hear eye witness accounts of conditions in the occupied territories of Palestine.
The Durham County Palestine Solidarity Campaign is holding its annual meeting next week and its secretary Helen Attewell will talk about her recent visit to the West Bank.
The meeting will also hear from Yousef Al-Hajjar, a student from the Gaza Strip who is in Britain on a year long scholarship sponsored by the Durham Palestine Educational Trust.
Ms Attewell said: "It was a very moving experience to be in the West Bank at the time when Yasser Arafat was gravely ill in hospital in Paris and to hear people's hopes and fears for the future.
"Although conditions in Ramallah are nothing like as bad as in Gaza - Palestinians describe it as 'five star occupation'.
"The restrictions on travel and commerce have to be seen to be believed."
The annual meeting will take place in Durham Town Hall next Tuesday starting at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
