A WEB design company is leading the way in the development of accessible websites for disabled people.

Digital Data, in Bishop Auckland, provides an advice and design service aimed at bringing existing websites in line with new regulations or developing new sites.

The Disability Discrimination Act, revised in October this year, makes it unlawful for service providers to discriminate against disabled people. It is now up to individual businesses to ensure a website complies with new regulations.

Digital Data, based at South Church Enterprise Park, aims to open services up to new markets, which not only include disabled people but also users of mobile phones and Internet browsers.

It has already worked on projects for the Driving Standards Agency, Relate and regional NHS trusts.

Managing director Howard Tighe said: "With more people purchasing goods and services across the web, any company that is serious about tapping into this market must make information as accessible as possible."
