Troubled car company MG Rover has unveiled two concept models that may go into production at its Midlands plant.

Rover, which has suffered plummeting sales this year, announced details of the MG GT and the Rover 75 coupe concept.

A Rover spokesman said: "These are possible production models, although no firm decision has been taken yet."

The GT concept has been developed around a 2.5 litre engine capable of a top speed of 145mph. The company said it had taken the MG TF and turned it into a modern-day expression of the MGB GT from the 1960s.

Design director Peter Stevens said: "We would love to expand the MG TF range with a high-performance MG GT, which has inspiring handling, practicality and great looks."

The 75 coupe is a two-door version of Rover's top-of-the-range 75 model and has an interior of yew and tan leather.

If all goes well, the two concept models could go into production at Rover's plant at Longbridge, Birmingham.
