BURGLARS raiding a house on Teesside stole a family's car -and may even have taken their pet dog.

Burglars stole the family's car, a metallic blue Ford, as well as cash and personal possessions - and their dog also disappeared.

Desperate to get their pedigree pug puppy back, Tony and Karen Finnegan are offering a "substantial'' reward for the bitch's safe return.

Mrs Finnegan said: "This has ruined the entire family's Christmas.

"I have only had the car - a Ford Fiesta Ghia - a month, but they can keep it. All I want is my dog back."

The pug has a black face and cream body, with a black streak running down its back.

For the second day running, she has had to collect 14-year-old daughter Lucy from school because the teenager has been too upset to focus on her lessons.

The family's other dog, a Jack Russell called Sandy, is ill and pining for the ten-month-old Pug.

The family woke on Wednesday morning to find they had had a visit from burglars in the night - the second raid on their Guisborough home in two months.

When burglars struck two months ago, they tried to steal Mr Finnegan's car, but were thwarted by an immobiliser. Even so, it cost £690 to repair the damage to the car.

The house locks have since been changed.

Detective Constable Sue Moore, of Redcar Police, said: "Obviously, the dog is a much-loved family member and they are very upset it has disappeared. At the moment, we don't know whether it's escaped from the house or the burglars have taken it, along with other possessions."

The registration of the stolen Fiesta is NV52 KUU.
