GRAEME STORM has made a fantastic start to life back on the European Tour by claiming the third highest finish of his career in the dunhill Championship in South Africa, writes Paul Fraser.

The Hartlepool golfer tied for eighth place at the Leopard Creek Golf Club and earned himself £12,500 in the process - helping him to 19th in the Volvo Order of Merit.

It is only Storm's third appearance since reclaiming his place back on the Tour and he has built on the 37th place he achieved in the China Open.

The 26-year-old finished just three shots adrift of leaders Charl Schwartzel and Englishman Neil Cheetham, while he was only two behind the third best player in the world, Ernie Els.

Storm could have ended even higher up the leaderboard, and level with Els on six under par, but the man from the North-East double bogeyed the 208- yard par three 16th yesterday.

After making the cut on Friday, it had all threatened to turn sour for Storm when he carded a 75, three over, on Saturday to lose touch with the leaders.

But he redeemed himself yesterday when he repeated his second round score with a four under par 68, to earn a nice confidence-boosting cheque.
