MIDFIELDER Adrian Webster believes the class of Darlington's former Premiership stars is rubbing off on the rest of the team.

Quakers moved up to fifth in League Two after Saturday's 3-0 win over Leyton Orient.

David Hodgson's starting XI at the weekend consisted of five players with Premiership experience.

Alun Armstrong and Clyde Wijnhard grabbed a goal apiece, while former Middlesbrough trio Craig Hignett, Curtis Fleming and skipper Neil Maddison all played their part in securing Quakers' third straight win.

"They're Premiership class players and when they are performing I don't think there is a team in this division better than us," said Webster.

"The likes of Higgy, Clyde and Alun have been fantastic for us and they have been a massive help to me and the rest of the team.

"It's great to play in the same side, especially alongside Higgy in midfield, who is a different class.

"Everybody's buzzing and we can't seem to do any wrong at the moment."

Quakers travel to Boston United on Saturday and Webster has warned their recent run will have little relevance if they fail to get a result at York Street.

"It's nice winning games 3-0 but it doesn't count for anything if you go and lose your next game by the odd goal," said Webster.

"If we can win another I'm sure that will put a lot of fear into other sides. The performances in our last few games have been excellent, but we have to do everything we can to make sure our run continues."

New Zealand-born Webster, who began his career in England with Charlton six years ago, has made seven appearances since penning a short-term deal in October.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in January, but will be hopeful of earning a longer deal after several solid displays.

However, Webster - who recovered from a serious knee injury during the summer - has set his immediate sights on as much first-team football as possible. In five starts he has been substituted on five occasions.

"I'm slowly getting there," he said. "My fitness is pretty good now so I can't complain and hopefully I can get more games under my belt."

Confidence is high among Darlington's in-form youth team as they set their sights on cup glory tonight.

After just one defeat in 13 league games, Quakers face Plymouth Argyle in the third round of the FA Youth Cup at Home Park this evening with a January tie at home to Crewe or Stockport awaiting.

Darlington beat York City 3-0 last Saturday, which means Martin Gray's team need just seven points from five matches to clinch the North-East Conference of the Football League Youth Alliance.

Plymouth are managed by Stuart Gibson, formerly youth team coach at Darlington.

Gray said: "We've done very poorly in previous years, never getting past the first round, but on current form I'm quietly confident.

"We set very high standards in training and it's now showing in games.

"We do a lot of work on team shape and other parts of the game and the quicker they learn that as kids, the quicker they develop. The ones that take it all on board get to the top.

"The difference between this and last season is that we have got better kids and that's thanks to the recruitment section.

"That's no disrespect to the young players who have made it into the first-team over the last couple of years, but as a group, this one is better. The bottom line for me is getting players through to the pro side.
