BRITAIN'S most successful paralympian Tanni Grey-Thompson is to be handed the Freedom of the Borough in her home town.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is planning to bestow the honour on the athlete in the new year.
Ms Grey-Thompson will be joined in the ceremony by local fundraising musician Norman Evans MBE.
Councillor Eric Thompson said: "We are very fortunate to number among its citizens these two high-calibre achievers.
"We have Tanni in the fiercely competitive world of the Paralympic Games and Norman in his dedication to raising funds to help others."
The pair will be only the fifth and sixth individuals to receive the honour, following in the footsteps of Redcar's former MP Mo Mowlam, Boro soccer legends Wilf Manion and George Hardwick and 90-year-old Redcar historian Vera Robinson.
Both ceremonies will be at Gisborough Hall, Guisborough, with Tanni honoured on January 25 and Norman on March 22, both starting at 11.30am.
