A STUDENT from the North-East has come top in the country for A-level physics.
Ben Grandey, from Middlesbrough, has been awarded the Psalters Horners Advanced Physics Prize after coming top in the Edexcel A-level physics exam by scoring 596 out of 600.
A former student of Acklam Grange School and Prior Pursglove College, Ben is a first-year physics student reading at St John's College, Oxford.
The student, who also finished in the top five in the country in A-level mathematics and further mathematics, said: "It was quite a surprise to hear I had come top in the country, and then to receive an award was unexpected."
Ben travelled with his parents to London to the ceremony, where he was presented with a certificate and a snuff horn. He plans to go into research.
