HARTLEPOOL'S Chris Westwood has stressed the importance of building on their upturn in fortunes away from home to strengthen their position in the League One promotion pack.

The defender was influential in securing a point for Neale Cooper's side at Bristol City on Tuesday and Pool have now collected four points from their last two away games.

Taking their impressive home form into consideration, Westwood believes they have every reason to set their sights high.

He said: "Last year it was the other way around, because we had a better record away from home. Hopefully the tide has turned and we can keep picking up points away and keep doing what we've been doing at home.

"We're unbeaten in two away games now so it's turning into a bit of a record for us. It's good to come away from home and actually get something."

Westwood and central defensive partner Micky Nelson kept the Robins at bay with solid displays at Ashton Gate.

But Westwood was keen to play down Pool's first away draw of the season.

"You always get the chance to play well when you're under that kind of pressure," said Westwood. "It puts you at the centre of attention and people seem to notice you more.

"Everybody at the back did their bit but on a whole it was a great team effort and we managed to come away with a point.

"It wasn't pretty, but we weren't there to entertain."

Robins player-boss Brian Tinnion praised a battling Pool performance, saying: "Hartlepool came here for a point and were strong at the back throughout."
