DUE to the great success of the recent passport day organised by the Cleveland Bay Horse Society, by kind permission of York Horse Sales, a similar event is to be held next Saturday, March 5.

The event will offer the chance to obtain equine passports while you wait.

More than 100 passports were issued at the last event, raising vital funds which will go towards the preservation of the Cleveland Bay breed, which is high on the Rare Breed Survival Trust's critical list.

A further 200 enquiries were received on the day for passports to be processed over the next few weeks.

Nigel Cowgill of the CBHS said: "It is obvious that there are still huge numbers of horses out there that will not have passports by the deadline of February 28.

"We have spoken to trading standards and they have agreed to allow us to run the passport day again, even though the deadline has passed, as they want more owners to come forward to get passports for their horses and ponies rather than have them break the law."

Owners still needing equine passports can bring their horse or pony along to the York Auction Centre at Murton, near York, and go home with their passport completed.

The event runs from 10am until 3pm and the cost of £20 includes completion of the ID chart, saving owners the cost of having the ID completed by their vet.

Mr Cowgill added: "The passports have been a great source of support for the CBHS with all monies received going into breed programmes to support this endangered breed."

Payment can be made by cash or credit card. Passports will be forwarded if payment is made by cheque.

The York Auction Centre is easy to locate, situated just off the A64, with ample parking and stabling facilities.
