SCHOOLchildren are helping to put their town on the map by creating a local version of the world's most famous board game.

Youngsters from primary schools in Ferryhill and Chilton have designed their own Monopoly boards featuring local buildings.

Jayne Bartle, a primary school teacher based at Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College to smooth the step up to secondary school, worked with partner primaries on the project, backed by maker of the game's regional versions, Hasbro, and local businesses .

Year six pupils at Broom Cottages, Dean Bank, Cleves Cross, Ferryhill Station and Chilton primary schools designed boards placing local businesses on the famous coloured plots.

Mrs Bartle said the project had captured the imagination of year six pupils.

"They had to use skills in ICT, literacy, numeracy, problem solving and creativity to come up with their own boards and seeing the final versions is incredible."
