YORKSHIRE-born celebrity chef Brian Turner has been booked to star in the first ever Ryedale Festival of Food and Drink to be held at Castle Howard on May 29 and 30.

The festival, a joint initiative by Ryedale District Council, North Yorkshire County Council, the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber and Castle Howard, will showcase the best produce the region has to offer.

Visitors will be able to meet local producers, sample and buy from a wide range of Yorkshire food and drink, and enjoy cookery demonstrations from Mr Turner and a host of local celebrity chefs.

Karen Carlyle, executive director of the Regional Food Group, said the festival will include suppliers from the Yorkshire Dales to the North York Moors and coast.

"It will also highlight some of the superb chefs working in the area and who support the local producers," she said.

With almost 70 stands, the festival will be one of the largest in the region and York Grange Honey Farm, Swaledale Cheese, Sloe Motion, Voakes Pies and Cropton Brewery are among those that have already signed up to take part.

Any others interested should contact Julia Hutchinson, local produce co-ordinator, North Yorkshire County Council on 01609 532294.
