SCHOOL bullies kept a "trophy" of a sickening attack on a younger pupil by using a video phone to record his ordeal.

Dean Murray, 11, was set upon by a gang of 15 and 16-year-olds who encircled him, held his arms and legs then punched him and twisted his face and ears.

Throughout the attack, one or more video mobiles were held to Dean's face to capture his misery.

The youngster kept the attack from his mother, Tracy, 37, because she is recovering from a brain haemorrhage, but his ordeal was eventually revealed after a video clip of the attack began circulating the school as it was sent from mobile to mobile.

It was brought to the attention of Dean's mother and father, Darren, a 35-year-old plasterer, by another pupil.

Mr and Mrs Murray, of Jarrow, South Tyneside, have withdrawn Dean from St Wilfrid's School, in South Shields, South Tyneside.

They also made a complaint to Northumbria Police, who are investigating the incident.

St Wilfrid's headteacher Christine Wright said: "The school became aware that a boy had been intimidated by a group of older boys and a photograph had been taken, which was considered inappropriate.

"We dealt with the complaint promptly and the mother was very happy with the punishment.

"The boy who took the photograph has been excluded with the full support of his parents, who are devastated by his actions.

"The parents of the other boys involved all support us and are also disappointed in their sons. All the boys have written letters of apology, which Dean will be receiving soon."

A police spokesman said: "We will be meeting with Dean's parents to see whether we will be taking the matter further."
