A FLOOD damaged leisure centre is to undergo a £50,000 refit.
The sports hall at Hambleton Leisure Centre, in Northallerton, was under water for several days when parts of the town flooded in 2000.
The floor dried out, but it has now started to disintegrate. The sports hall will close on Monday for the floor to be replaced. It will re-open on April 4.
Assistant manager Richard Boucher said: "Initially, it looked like the wooden floor had survived the floods. It dried out and was usable.
"But over the last few months, it has begun to deteriorate. It is in danger of breaking up in places and our insurers have said we have no option but to replace it immediately."
The centre's swimming pool and gym will remain open while the work takes place.
