Spennymoor have lodged a complaint to the UniBond League about having to play at Witton Albion tomorrow - and one of their players is refusing to turn out.

Moors are furious that they are unable to play their Presidents Cup tie today, because a Conference game involving Northwich, who groundshare with Witton, is going ahead.

Moors' owner Benny Mottram believes he has the backing of the FA rule book.

He said: "It says in the FA rules that no club or player shall be compelled to participate in a game on a Sunday.

"Why should we be playing on a Sunday? We are having problems getting a team out, and one of our players is refusing to play on religious grounds.

"We think the UniBond League is breaking the rules by forcing us to play. We haven't agreed to it.

"The pitch is also going to be wrecked, because it was due to be used for a junior game on Friday night. So that's two matches in the weekend before we play on it.

"The Brewery Field is in perfect condition, so why can't the game be switched to our place instead, especially as Bishops are now playing at Hyde?"

Defender Micky Gough is suspended, while Andrew Brown and Steve Hutt are injured.

Bishop Auckland are hoping to lift themselves off the bottom of the table at high-flying Hyde today.

The league has agreed to switch the game to Hyde and manager Brian Honour said: "We're pleased to get any sort of game on, because it's given us a chance to get off the bottom .

"It's a stiff test, but it will give us a benchmark on how far we've progressed over the last few weeks. We believe that we've improved dramatically."

Bishops have won their last two matches to put them level on points with Bridlington, who they play on Wednesday night.

* Tony Harrison has returned for a second spell as manager of ANL Second Division club Prudhoe.

Harrison took Prudhoe to the verge of promotion three seasons ago, but left for Ashington, whom he then guided to promotion last season. However, he left Ashington in November, took on the Consett job, but then left Belle Vue after less than a fortnight.

Durham City are also very close to naming a new manager. They were interviewing three people for the second time yesterday, two currently in management.

Guisborough's relegation problems have been increased. As expected, they were deducted three points by the management committee for fielding a suspended player for the second time this season and are now four points adrift of Tow Law at the foot of the table.

There could be very few games again taking place in the league.

Several clubs expect a postponement to be a formality this morning, but some are hoping to stage games.

Chester-le-Street are confident they will entertain Benfield Saints. Saints include new signing, Kevin Leighton from Washington.

West Auckland could be given the go ahead to play at Ashington, who managed to play in midweek.

Billingham Town go to Thornaby in their derby. David Turner, Carl Chillingsworth and keeper Darren Collier are all suspended, so manager Richie Watson has brought in keeper Mark Woolnough from Willington. Woolnough was with Watson at Thornaby.

* Spectators and officials are advised to ring the Northern League postponement line - 0191 389 1385 - this morning.

* Bedlington are hoping their hard work will pay off when they face Newbury in their FA Vase quarter-final tie this afternoon.

The Terriers have worked hard to clear their ground of snow and ice for the tie against the Wessex League club, hoping to clinch a semi-final place for the second time in their history.

Joint manager Tony Lowery said: "We've done everything we can to prepare for the game.

"We've cleared the pitch and we are taking the players to a hotel on Friday night to prepare them properly.

"We think that it helps to get the players' minds on the game. It seemed to work when we've played away earlier in the competition.''

Striker Tony Shandran and defender Danny Anderson are both expected to return.

Jarrow Roofing will have to wait another week before they can play their home tie with Frome Town.

The game was postponed yesterday morning because of a waterlogged pitch.

Darlington RA's Wearside League game with Wolviston has been switched to Brinkburn Road.

Wolviston secretary Keith Simpson agreed to the change with Metcalfe Park waterlogged.

"It's a sensible arrangement. We still have 13 games to play and the last thing we want is a build up of fixtures. There is a very good chance the match will go ahead," said RA secretary Martyn Jackson.

Warren Byrne has begun a five-week suspension but otherwise RA are at full strength. Wolviston enjoy the rarity of a full squad.

Cleadon SC will move into fourth position if they defeat Ferryhill Athletic who aim to make it three wins on the trot.
