UNDERCOVER checks will be carried out on the region's pubs and clubs to ensure they do not flout laws on underage drinking.
Police officers and underage youngsters from Newcastle have carried out eight test-purchases of drink at licensed premises in the city.
In two cases, the children were able to buy drinks at the bar.
Officers are considering what action to take against the premises caught.
Chief Inspector Dave Jackson said: "There is a good relationship between police and licensees in the city, and it is pleasing that the majority of pubs tested so far have not served to underage people.
"Teenagers can look older nowadays and it can be quite difficult for somebody running a bar or pub to know if they are underage.
"More test-purchases are planned over the coming weeks and months, and action will be taken against those who break the law."
