YOUNG swimmers have been given tips and advice by a world champion.
James Hickman, who retired at the end of last year after claiming the world 200m butterfly title for the fifth time, was at Thirsk pool to talk to members of the White Horse Swim team.
He came to Thirsk at the invitation of team coach Hannah Creelman, who is one of the youngest qualified swimming coaches in Britain. She gained the qualification when she was 19.
She hopes his words have inspired the young swimmers. "James is one of the most down-to-earth people I know," she said.
"He is an inspiration to young swimmers around the country and we have been very lucky to be able to hear his advice."
