A DINNER lady who started her job only expecting to work for a few weeks has just celebrated 25 years service.

Nancy Barber was presented with a bouquet of flowers from staff and pupils at Sherriff Hutton Primary School at an assembly to mark her anniversary.

Mrs Barber only intended to work for six weeks at the most when she joined the school near York, but she has now become the longest-serving member of staff.

She said: "I went there as a temporary and just carried on and here I am.

"It's only for an hour each day but I don't mind giving up that hour. I really enjoy working with the children and the staff. They really involve you.

"I've got no plans for retirement yet."
