PARENTS were encouraged to take care not to expose their children to the dangers of passive smoking at a family day yesterday.
The event took place at the SureStart Redhill Centre, in Stockton, and coincided with National No Smoking Day and World Book Day. It included storytelling and crafts as well as a free prize draw for parents.
Adults were encouraged to join SureStart's pledge scheme to protect youngsters from passive smoking.
The pledge has different options, ranging from asking parents to agree not to smoke in the presence of young children to asking them to keep their homes smoke free zones.
Claire Jones, health visitor for SureStart Stockton, said: "Even parents who are smokers can play a key part in protecting young children from cigarette smoke."
