THE biggest college in the North-East could be hit by further strike action.

About 400 lecturers and managers at Newcastle College are ready to walk out next Tuesday and Wednesday in a dispute over pay and conditions.

A strike last Tuesday left the college almost empty of students, but exchanges between the union and the college principal have failed to solve the dispute.

Since then, members of the NATFHE union have been prioritising teaching and learning. Many administration tasks have been put to one side as a work-to-rule has begun.

Union branch secretary Jon Bryan said: "We hoped that talks would resolve the issue so that we can concentrate on teaching students. That has not happened and NATFHE regrets that once more we have to take disruptive action."
