PUNK band The Stranglers are helping to show off a North-East business park.

The 1970s icons, who had hits with Golden Brown, Heroes and Peaches, are playing a concert tonight at MIPIM, in Cannes, Europe's largest international real estate conference.

The concert will highlight the development of Rainton Bridge Business Park, in Sunderland.

The £100m site is expected to create up to 4,000 jobs, with more than 700,000sq ft of space.

Phase one will include a £7m, 50,000sq ft business centre to support the region's small businesses and also provide 100,000sq ft of office space.

The development, a partnership with Sunderland City Council, follows the success of their joint venture at the nearby Doxford Business Park.

Sunderland-born Baz Warne, who joined The Stranglers in 2000, will play at the concert.

It will also feature stand-up comedian Ardal O'Hanlon, who played Father Dougal in the sitcom Father Ted and also stars in the BBC TV show My Hero.

Patrick Going, of property company Akeler, said: "MIPIM is a fantastic platform to showcase major developments among key industry players.

"The Stranglers concert will be a high-profile event and one which we hope will leave a lasting memory in the minds of all our guests, both of the evening and of Rainton Bridge as a world-class development.

"It's really going to put Sunderland on the map."
