A MAN is being quizzed by detectives investigating two shooting incidents.

A shotgun was fired through the window of a house in Lingdale, east Cleveland, shortly before midnight on Sunday.

The 34-year-old homeowner's two dogs were later shot dead on nearby allotments.

A 43-year-old man, from Guisborough, was being questioned by detectives in Redcar last night about the shootings.

Specialist forensic teams carried out searches of two addresses, one in Lingdale, the other at Guisborough, for clues, but found no trace of a firearm.

The shotgun was fired through the front window of a house in Lingdale High Street, the force of the blast smashed through an internal door into adjoining room but no one was hurt.

Detective Sergeant Jon Green said: "Although we are pleased to have made an arrest we are still intent on locating the firearm used in these incidents.

"I am aware that Lingdale is a close-knit community and feel sure there are persons who can assist us locating this weapon and identifying those responsible for its use. I would urge those persons to come forward and speak to us."

The bodies of the dogs have been removed by police for further examination.

Anyone who can help is asked to call Cleveland Police on (01642) 302626 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
