HOUSING minister Keith Hill toured the region yesterday to inspect improvements in housing.
In Middlesbrough, the MP visited Erimus Housing's Residents' Resource Centre, in Thorntree, and the Grove Hill Resource Centre, where he discussed the potential to regenerate the area.
Erimus is working with the local authority to decide how to boost the area, including measures to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
A public consultation will eventually be held in a bid to produce a strategy to regenerate Grove Hill.
In Thornaby, Mr Hill went to the £30m regeneration scheme at Mandale Estate. Work has started on the first phase of the project to build 800 homes.
In Hartlepool, he visited more housing projects and met two Second World War veterans. Percy Fielding, 84, and Donald Colledge, 79, are working with young people to promote better understanding between the generations.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Hill said: "What I have seen here goes to the very heart of the Government's drive to create sustainable communities."
