A SENIOR member of staff at an exclusive school has been suspended for viewing inappropriate material on the Internet during school hours, it has been revealed.

Northumbria Police last night confirmed they had been informed about the incident, at Ascham House School in Gosforth, Newcastle.

A school spokesman said last night: "There is no suggestion that the matter has gone beyond this, or that anyone else is involved.

"The school had a security system in place controlling access to the Internet.

"However, on this occasion it appears to have been overridden by the individual concerned."

Ascham House is a non-selective, independent day school for boys aged from three to 13.
