Satley WI: MRS Plews presided over the monthly meeting of Satley WI at Hall Hill Farm on February 14, attended by 16 members.

After singing Jerusalem, speaker David Raeburn showed slides from his holiday in Katmandu and Nepal. He told how he and his wife lived the same way of life as the local people and were accepted by them. His slides showed us how happy the people were with their very simple way of life. Members then enjoyed tea and biscuits provided by Mrs Plews and Mrs Lowther.

Business followed, Mrs White read the minutes of the January meeting and dealt with correspondence. Mrs Plews then reminded members that the annual outing is in May and asked members to think about suggestions and to being ideas to the March meeting.

The competition, the drawing of a Yeti, was won by Freda Scott, with Sally White second, and Jean Portwood third.

The next meeting is at the Hall Hill Farm on March 14, when the speaker is Morag Webb, of Thorntons Chocolates. Would all members and visitors please note the meeting will start at 6.30pm.

South Moor WI: THE February meeting opened as usual with the singing of Jerusalem and collect repeated.

The president welcomed members and was pleased to see the return of two sick members, while not forgetting another sick member. Ann Wier gave the reading I'm Fine.

The secretary read the minutes and newsletter arrangements for birthday night. A meal at South Moor Golf Club, a visit to Washington and a trip to Whitby were arranged. The treasurer gave the monthly financial statement.

The raffle, donated by Joyce Brinn, was won by Marion Green.

Tea and biscuits were served. The speaker Chris Blackburn gave a detailed account of the Orient Express. Joyce Brinn gave a warm vote of thanks. The competition for a pretty fan was judged by Chris Blackburn. First was Vera Soulsby, second Winnie Batey, and third June George.

Easterside WI: THE president, Janet Nelson, opened the February meeting and welcomed everyone including one new member.

The raffle was won by Margaret Tailford and the competition for a miniature ornament by Judith Draffen. Carole Robson showed some dolls' houses and miniatures from her collection and gave an interesting talk on the subject. The evening ended with tea and biscuits.

The visit to the Theatre Royal at Newcastle to see Snow White was enjoyed by all. It was followed by a meal at the Harperley Hotel.

Consett Afternoon WI: LINDA Richardson opened the February meeting and Marian Tucker read the minutes.

Verses were read by Valerie Rose, Miriam Owens and Joan Dance. Arrangements were finalised for our trip to the Sunderland Empire to see Miss Saigon.

Winners of last year's competition were presented with vouchers. First was Ada Oughton, second Miriam Owens, and third Margaret Anderson. It was arranged that the WI is to hold a coffee morning in the Methodist Church Hall in April, tickets to be sold after the March meeting.

The guest was Tony Westgarth who gave a slide/quiz on photographs taken around the area, which was very interesting. The vote of thanks was given by Linda Richardson.

The competition, a match box, was won by Maria Mahon, Maureen Ledger and Miriam Owens. The raffle was won by Mary Moffat.

The next meeting will be held on March 22, at 1.30pm.
