A CHARITY shop in north Durham has won a prize for coming up trumps in a nationwide appeal.
The Barnardo's shop, in Consett, made one of the largest donations in the country to the Foresters Toy and Christmas Appeal last year.
Members of the public were asked to donate toys to Barnardo's shops for the appeal.
A total of 402 bags were donated and sorted at the Consett store, raising more than £8,000. Overall, 4,231 bags were collected, raising £84,620.
The cash will help Barnardo's support children and families to tackle poverty, disability, serious illness, bereavement and abuse.
Foresters, an international financial organisation, is one of the charity's largest corporate sponsors.
Heather Armstrong, Foresters Hadrian branch president, presented a cheque for £50 to Barnardo's Consett shop manager, Anne D'Northwood, and team.
