PARALYMPIC champion Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson is taking part in the The 23rd Liberata Redcar Half Marathon at the weekend.

Sunday's event boasts a record 1,300 entries this year.

Tanni said: "It's so important to me to take part in an event held in my home town like the half-marathon.

"I really want to do well and I've been training every day, despite a lot of other commitments. I'm sure it'll be more competitive with the record number of entries, but more enjoyable than ever with all the extra people taking part."

Tanni's husband Ian, another veteran of the event and a lifelong Redcar resident, is also in the starting line-up .

Late entrants are welcome, with the entry fee at £11.50 for club runners and £12.50 for unattached.

People are asked to go along as soon after 8am as possible on Sunday to register. The event starts at 10.30am. For more information call (01642) 471503.
