A pilot who lost engine power on approach to Durham Tees Valley Airport was forced to make an emergency landing, an investigation found.
The small light aircraft crash landed in a field at Ingleby Cross, near Northallerton, before hitting a hedge when the nose wheel collapsed. The pilot and his passenger escaped uninjured.
An accident investigation report in to the incident, on July 27 last year at 3.45pm, has been released to the public.
The aircraft was being flown from Bournemouth to Durham Tees Valley Airport on a navigation exercise when the engine started to run roughly before losing all power.
The engine stopped and the 28-year-old pilot declared a may-day before crash landing in the field 16 miles from the airport.
The report showed the pilot believed the engine failed due to carburettor icing.
