PLANS for a traffic calming scheme in a village have been condemned as "overkill" by parish councillors.
The proposals for Romanby, near Northallerton, include raised road tables, a roundabout at the junction of Harewood and Ainderby roads and five road signs around the green.
It has been put suggested that a 20mph speed limit be enforced around a development built last year near the Golden Lion in Ainderby Road.
Parish council chairman Paul Law said: "We do want some restrictions in place, but this is just overkill."
Barry Mason, traffic management engineer with North Yorkshire County Council, said the proposals were at a preliminary stage and were undergoing consultation.
