KIND-HEARTED motorcyclists are planning to entertain youngsters in hospital this weekend.

Bike clubs and Durham Police's motorcycle section have teamed up to organise an Easter Egg Run on Sunday.

After setting off from the car park at the Tesco store on the outskirts of Dur- ham at 10am, the bike convoy, complete with police escort, will travel down the A167 to the children's ward at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

On the next leg of the run, riders and machines will set off along the A68 and A6072 towards Bishop Auckland General Hospital, before taking the A688 via Spennymoor to the University Hospital of North Durham, in Durham City.

After distributing all their Easter eggs, the riders will return to police headquarters for refreshments and a chance to discuss bike-related issues at a roadshow organised by the force.

Sergeant Bob Brown said: "The Easter weekend is traditionally the start of the motorcycling season, and we hope everyone will enjoy miles of trouble-free riding.

"The reduction in motorcycle-related accidents in our area over the last few years is very encouraging, but this summer we will again be promoting our safety campaign."

The lunchtime roadshow at police headquarters is open to anyone not taking part in the run and who would like information on bike safety and security.

Anyone thinking of attending the event is asked to call the force motorcycle section on 0191-375 2399.
