THE giant man-eating shark that almost killed a British holidaymaker has attacked another group of terrified tourists.

The 18ft Great White tried to tear Mark Currie apart as he cowered in a cage beneath the ocean. Dramatic pictures showed the monster trying repeatedly to smash its way through the bars.

Now, more footage has emerged of the same shark, taken by a group of thrill seekers who had a similar brush with death a week earlier.

The group, from Newcastle, were on holiday in Cape Town, South Africa, and took a boat trip from Ganns Bay to a spot known as Shark Alley.

Like Barrow-in-Furness man Mr Currie, 32, they were lowered into the sea in a cage, to observe the creatures in their natural habitat.

The enormous shark, believe to be the same one that attacked a week later, ripped at the cage bars.

Financial advisor Mark Gibson, postman Carl Allan and welder Grahame Clarke, all 35 and from Newcastle, had gone down into the water while their friend, Craig Montague, stayed on deck.

When the five-metre shark struck, it tried to sink its teeth into their protective cage.

Mr Gibson said yesterday: "Its mouth was massive and it was coming for us. We could see its huge teeth closing in. It was trying to get at our cage.

"It was terrifying - we all thought our number was up."

He added: "It clamped its jaws on the bars and we were inches away from its mouth, we could see the rows and huge teeth right there in front of us.

"We were all yelling in fear and convinced we were going to die. We just managed to scramble aboard and felt a little safer - although not completely."

Meanwhile, a British surfer was airlifted to hospital yesterday after being attacked by a Great White off the coast of South Africa.

Chris Sullivan, 32, was awaiting surgery after being bitten on his right calf and foot at Noordhoek beach, on the country's Atlantic coast.

Mr Sullivan was flown by emergency helicopter to hospital and, although bathers and surfers were warned of the attack, beaches in the area remained open.
