A 16-YEAR-OLD hairdresser has shown that she is a bright talent by scooping an award for her work after less than a year in the job.

April Lippe from Grangefield, Stockton, a hairdressing apprentice at Changes Salon, in Norton, won the Overall Colouring and Cut and Blow Dry Trophy at Middlesbrough College.

The competition was open to students on the college's hairdressing course.

Hairdressing runs in the family for the teenager, who said: "My family got me into it. My gran used to run a hairdresser's."

Changes owner Margaret Outterside said: "April has a natural talent and I am not surprised that she won.

"She worked on her friend's hair and did an outstanding cut and blow dry as well as colour finish. She has a great future in hairdressing."
