ARMY cadets Steven Forth and brothers Nick and Stan Parry experienced what life is like for the professionals.

The trio, who are all aged 13, were among 250 youngsters from across North Yorkshire who participated in a week-long camp at Strensall, near York.

The activity-packed week was crammed with day and nighttime training, instruction in a range of life-skills and other packages designed to test the youngsters while ensuring that they also had fun in a safe environment.

Steven, Nick and Stan, who are with the Green Howards army cadet detachment in Northallerton, were among those who took part in a night out in the wild, learning skills including map-reading and campcraft.

Event spokesman Kerry Hutchinson said: "The week was all about giving our young local Army cadets a great time, filled with activities to help them think for themselves, develop their initiative, make decisions and foster a better sense of personal organisation.

"They learnt life skills such as how to read a map and basic first aid. The camp has been a huge success and all our cadets thoroughly enjoyed themselves."
